Swedish architects managed to build the unique 8-storeyed, 26 meters house from a cedar in Stockholm. The building was designed by the Wingards Arkitekter Bureau and consists of 31 residential apartment. This is the highest wood building in the world, says ee24.com.
The house is located in gulf’s coastal Sundbyberg area. Construction was carried out by the order of Folkhem Company, which dared on challenging construction experiment of a wooden house in the modern metropolis. In the future they plan to build 3 more such buildings.
The apartment area vary from 55 up to 130 sq.m (from one to four bedrooms). The spacious balconies located on the façade added another 13 sq.m to the size of the apartment. The floors are connected by staircase and an elevator, descending to the underground garage.
The building has a frame-modular base. The wood was used as a main building material. These modules lean on the metal rods, passing through the building from the basement to the attic. The building’s weight is three times lighter than if it would be made of concrete.
In the outer and inner design was used a cedar wood, which perfectly resists chemical and biological destructive factors. Moreover, being affected by the sun or rain, cedar will only change the coloring, acquiring noble silver color. This allows to forget about the façade renovation for the whole decades. The building is designed in the style typical Swedish city's architecture style of the 1940-50s.
The construction project of several wood buildings in Stockholm
It is interesting that wooden apartment buildings have become a fashionable trend in the Nordic countries in recent years. Several smaller projects have been already implemented (for example, house Treet in Bergen, Norway), and the apartments had been sold out long before the building was finished.
Earlier ee24.com wrote about wooden five-storeyed building which was built in Spain.
