Property in Slovakia fell after two quarters of growth

In the first three months of 2013, property prices in Slovakia fell by 0.6%. Earlier homes and apartments in this country became steadily more expensive in the two consecutive quarters, according to news agency Bloomberg.

Such a negative trend caused by growth of unemployment, that impacted negatively on the demand for real estate, according to specialists of the Central Bank of Slovakia.

The average price per square meter of real estate in Slovakia in April 2013 cost €1,240. Prices varied depending on the region. In the western part of Slovakia, Nitra, housing cost €588 per square meter, while in Bratislava - €1,670.

The peak of the real estate market in Slovakia was observed in the second quarter of 2008. Since then, the average cost of housing in the country decreased by 20%. The highest rates were observed in the Bratislava region, one of the ten most expensive European regions.
