Romania will ban the foreigners to acquire more than 100 hectares of land, according to ee24.com.
Scheduled for 1 January 2014 liberalization of the land market in Romania forced to worry the local peasants. Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture has prepared a bill that foreigners are not allowed to acquire more than 100 acres of land.
In addition to this limitation a mandatory testing of potential buyers for involvement in agriculture is introduced. The buyer will be required to provide evidence that he was engaged in agriculture over the past 5 years.
Restrictions are imposed also because the cost of land in Romania is several times lower than the European average. And the prices for apartments in Bucharest last year also fell.
