The buildings of the estate were constructed by the end of the 19th century, at the centre of today’s Višķi Village. The main estate building was constructed for the Mohls, a Polish noble family, who owned 18 farms and 4000 ha of land in the surroundings. A representative of the Mohl family has been found in Argentina, who has provided information about the estate and the family that it was built for, and is open for further communication.

The reorganised house of the estate’s owner has been preserved until today. The loosely planned park that formed around the house also survives, containing some 75 species of trees and shrubs, a pond and a fountain.

The Višķu Estate is located in a picturesque location in Latgale, on the shore of Lake Luknas.

An analysis of the estate’s location, the size of the indoor areas and the adjoining land, its park, and the community facilities built by the municipal council suggests that establishing a spa, hotel and wellness centre, or leasing the premises out for the needs of the municipality/private users would be beneficial options for developing the estate. This goal coincides with the development plans of Daugavpils Municipality and Višķi Parish.

So far, Daugavpils Municipal Council has already developed surrounding areas, building a stadium, a camping site, an outdoor stage, a beach with volleyball fields and a boat quay. The Council intends to provide and expand high-quality cultural, sporting and tourist events and services, and to support the renovation of the estate.

The building of the estate is connected to the municipal central heating system, water supply and power supply systems. There are three entrances into the estate, with paved access roads.

An advantage of establishing a spa or wellness centre at the estate is the availability of medicinal mud. In 1998, Lake Liminu located near the estate, underwent a study, which revealed that the medicinal organic sapropelic mud have a complex composition unique for Latvia, which is confirmed by reports on the study’s results issued by experts from the Latvian Association of Balneology.
