In 1841, Emanuele Repetti, in its geographical, historical and physical dictionary of
Tuscany, described the Pizzorne with these terms: "This term refers to the most extended
mountain range of the northern side of the eastern area of the plain of Lucca. Monte
Pisano rises in front of it, the Lima river touches it from north and the Serchio river
runs at its right. Brancoli rises at the foot of the Pizzorne while, on the left, it is
flanked by the Alpe Apuana. Pizzorne, therefore, constitutes one of the most southern
mountains of the Appennino Toscano... On its summit there are a plateau and woods; on the
side there are chestnut trees and, below, olive groves, vineyards and cereals, parks
filled with fruit trees and vegetables wet by the water running down channel, springs and
streams.
Villas and estates are dislocated on the slopes or at the foot of the Pizzorne. Among
these villas we find the one of Marlia and the gorgeous one of Camigliano; the villas of
Segromigno, Petrojo, San Colombano, San Pancrazio, Tofori, Sant'Andrea, Gragnano, San
