Street of the Imperial Forum (Via Fori Imperiali) in Rome became a pedestrian zone. On the first day after the opening about 100-150 thousand people visited the street. The route "Bella Roma" will allow tourists to take a walking tour from Piazza Venezia to the Colosseum.
City authorities intend to continue to engage in ennoblement of the pedestrian zone. It is planned to remove the mobile vans with food, unauthorized constructions, gladiators and other street performers.
The mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino visited the official opening ceremony of the pedestrian zone and said that in the future they plan to open a large open-air museum. Panels with pointers for tourists will be installed, information points and audio tours in different languages. The area will be included in a network of bicycle roads of Rome.
Via dei Fori Imperiali (originally Via dell'Impero) - a broad avenue in the center of Rome from Piazza Venezia to the Colosseum was built in 1932 on the order of Benito Mussolini.
Direct street width is 30 and a length is 850 m. It separates the main forum from the Roman imperial forums. The street is located in the Monti district. After the Second World War, the street was renamed the Via dei Fori Imperiali. Every year on June 2 a military parade in honor of the Italian Republic is held here.
Since the 1980s, more than once raised the issue of the elimination of the street, as it separates the archaeological site into two parts, and prevents digging. Earlier, the Via dei Fori Imperiali was opened to vehicular traffic and was turned into a pedestrian zone only on Sundays.
