Montevecchia is a small town of 2,677 inhabitants in the province of Lecco, in Lombardy, Italy. Pretty destination much sought after by the so-called "Sunday tourism" located in the heart of the Curone Park (there are 11 trails that cross from North to South and from West to East the protected area). The road that leads to the summit of Montevecchia is very popular with cycling enthusiasts while the trails of the Park, as well as walkers and trekkers, are by mountain bikers and horse riding.
On the top of the hill is the beautiful medieval sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Carmel but the real highlight of this nice little town is the enchanting view that can be enjoyed from its terraces. On clear days, looking South, you can admire the Brianza from above and see the skyscrapers of Milan and then even further down to the Apennines, while to the North you can see the first peaks of the Prealpi of Lecco.
Montevecchia is known for the production of aromatic herbs (mainly sage and rosemary, but also basil, thyme and laurel) and wines; in fact, the town is home of the "Pincianel", the classic red wine of the Brianza area. Also noteworthy are the famous "furmagett de Muntavegia", typical fresh and aged cheeses produced with cow's milk and goat's milk.
