Greece will reduce stamp duty by 70%

The Greek government has agreed with the troika of creditors to reduce the stamp duty on buying property in Greece, reports ee24.com citing grekomania.ru.

It is planned that the stamp duty that now stands at 8% of the cadastral value of the property with value up to €20,000 and 10% for objects more expensive than €20,000, a decrease of 70% to 3% of the cost. The innovation should come into force on 1 January 2014.

Greek officials hope that this decision, coupled with the prohibition on increasing the cadastral value of the property prior to 2015 will help to overcome the stagnation in Greece market.

Earlier ee24.ru wrote that Greece will introduce a new tax on all real estate transcations for homeowners.
