Authorities of Greece have found a way to punish non-payers

Greece's finance minister has banned the owners who haven't been paying property taxes for the past five years, to sell their homes. In practice, this is implemented as follows: at the conclusion of the transaction the seller must provide a certificate on taxes, reports ee24.com citing ekathimerini.com.

According to the decree, issued on July 23, notaries and registrars are required to stop the transaction, if files don't contain a certificate about payment of all the taxes for the last five years.

Recall that a new tax on real estate in Greece was set from the beginning of the year. Owners of property priced below €300,000 pay less, from €2 to €13 per sq.m per year. In addition, owners of expensive real estate also pay from 0.1% to 1% of the price tag.
