Rail connection between Estonia and Russia restored

July 10, the first train from Moscow to Tallinn departed, thereby marking the resumption of rail connection between the two capitals.

Services on the line Tallinn-St. Petersburg-Moscow performs ”Federal passenger company” (FPC), a subsidiary of Russian railways. The train runs in both directions every day.

Recall that in may  of 2015 the railway connection was interrupted. In the new phase of cooperation route and timetable and pricing of transportation are revised. In the conditions of difficult  economic and political situation, experts of both countries made a great and efficient effort to restore rail passenger service as soon as possible.

The rolling stock on the new line became more modern: all trains are equipped with conditioners, there are special seats for passengers with special physical needs.

The resumption of passenger service with Russia will cost Estonia up to several hundred thousand euros per year, but experts are confident that the route will become economically viable and can compete with air transport.
