Marmaray underwater tunnel did not cope with the flow of passengers

Recently opened under the waters of the Bosphorus rail tunnel that connected Europe and Asia, on the first day of work did not cope with stress. In the tunnel there was an emergency power outage, and the passengers were forced to get to the exit to the surface by themselves, according to ee24.com.

According to the officials, the problem was caused by crowded during the rush hour subway wagons. The railway company was even forced to shut one of the stations in order to reduce the traffic flow. A complete surprise was the fact that many of the passengers had no idea about the emergency stop and did not know how to behave in a similar situation. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Recall that the Marmaray tunnel is part of the Istanbul metro and was opened for the purpose of unloading bridges over the Bosphorus. Construction of the tunnel was conducted over nine years and cost €3,4 billion. The tunnel stretches for 1.4 km under the water and up to 60 m in depth.
