Spain continues to be a major European country that is actively developing golf tourism, according to a new review of KPMG's Golf Advisory Practice. Portugal and Scotland are in second and third places in the list of the most popular tourist destinations.
Despite the economic challenges, Spain remains the most popular destination for golf. In 2012, the number of golf tourists grew by 9.3% (1.6 million) compared to the previous year. Golf tourism market has exceeded the estimated €1.5 billion.
Now is the time to invest in Spanish real estate, the value of which remains at a low level, according to Propertyshowrooms.com. Comfortable accommodation, located near the fields, especially needs for golf tourists, said Marc Pritchard, sales and marketing manager for Taylor Wimpey Espana.
The Germans were particularly active in the market of golf tourism in 2012. Taylor Wimpey recorded a 36% increase in the number of buyers from Germany, compared with 2011.
Costa del Sol was a hot spot due to more than 50 golf courses, some of which are located in the mountains with spectacular views of the surrounding area.
