Spain has announced a mass cadastral amnesty

The Spanish government has announced the success of a plan to resolve the situation with real estate, which have been incorrectly registered in the cadastre. More than 170 Spanish municipalities took participation in the project, reports ee24.com citing noticia.ru.

The decision to land the amnesty was adopted in December 2012. Now problematic property owners could settle its legal status by paying a fee of €60, outstanding property taxes and interest for late payments. In this case, the owner gets rid of any penalties for improper registration of the object.

According to the original plan the amnesty will be valid until 2016, but this deadline may be extended. Recently the Official State Gazette published a list of the top 176 municipalities, endorsing the initiative. The project started in the cities and villages as Abenhibre (Albacete), Esparragaleho (Badajoz), Gelida (Barcelona), Salas (Asturias) and some others.

Experts believe that the amnesty will be a unique opportunity for the owners to change the layout of their homes in order to increase its size, but not made proper changes in the cadaster. Such things have a negative impact on the property tax fees (IBI).

This initiative is extremely useful for the authorities of the Spanish cities, as it increases the income of urban budgets, which are formed in large part by IBI.
