Annual property tax in Portugal (IMI) increased, but not for everybody

Now, if the apartment or house is in a beautiful or sunny area, the tax on the property in Portugal will increase. Fortunately, the innovation will just spit the buildings and objects which are reevaluated.

The location of the object previously was also one of the factors that determined the amount of tax. However, only 5% of the total formula depended on it. Now the owners of apartments and houses with view will have to pay more. In other words, if the apartment is right on the seafront, the tax may increase by 20%. Such adverse circumstances as the views of the cemetery, the ground floor, windows in the northern part of the house or noisy area can serve as a basis for reducing the rate of tax to 10%.

Sometimes apartments, that are located in the same building, but on different floors, have different taxes. The only possibility to change the amount of tax is to try to challenge the claims of tax in court.
