Demand of foreign investors on the residence permit in Latvia on the eve of his "price increase" has grown by half, especially the Russians succeeded in it. 1781 requests from 4148 foreigners were submitted between January and September 2014. The largest number of applications in 2014 were filed in August (349), right before the introduction of amendments to the Latvian law on immigration.

In 2014, a residence permits in Latvia were requested the citizens of the Russian Federation (maximum demand; 2798 people), China (478), Ukraine (353), Uzbekistan (144), Belarus (81), Azerbaijan (72), Kazakhstan (58), Lebanon (17) and Israel (14).

The residence permit in Latvia went up significantly on September 1, 2014. According to the new law, a minimum residential investment grew to €250,000 for property (plus an additional 5 percent tax to the state treasury for purchase).
