Deputies of National Alliance "All For Latvia!" - "For Fatherland and Freedom / LNNK" suggested to stop issuing residence permits for Russians who buy real estate in Latvia. This proposal was included in their amendments to the Immigration Act, according to ee24.com citing baltic-course.com.
To begin deputies propose to freeze the issuing of residence permit in Latvia for a period of up to one year and thus "prevent the threat to the state." It's hard to imagine that the Russians who buy property in Latvia, can be a real threat to the security of this Baltic state. Andrejs Kozels, director of residential property in Realia, told ee24.com, that more than 70% of Russian property buyers in Latvia did not live there permanently. They either rent out or come for vacation only.
Let us recall that in the previous year deputies proposed to introduce a quota system for the issuance of a residence permit. These amendments were rejected by the President of Latvia. During the first two months of 2014 more than 900 documents were issued, and 573 of them - to Russians.
