History
Built in the late 1700s in a beautiful neoclassical “VillaTaverna” consisted of a Central building surrounded by a large Park with panoramic views of the lake. It was later leased as a summer residence of Francesco Melzi, Vice-President of the Italian Republic in the time of Napoleon, who lived there during the construction of the nearby Villa Melzi. In 1800 the property was sold to a noble family Poldi Pezzoli, who decide to expand the Villa with the addition of two wings connected with the main building through a gallery. A few years later the Park was transformed under the project of Giuseppe Balzaretti and now is different natural and landscape frame of rare beauty: the ancient trees, viewing platforms, exotic species of plants form a unique heritage. Track parks also attract the interest of the public: statues, fountains, inscriptions and memorials — everything breathes with history, beauty and elegance!
