Owners of illegal buildings in Greece will be fined

According to the Ministry of environmental protection and energy, from the 6.5 million residential buildings in Greece, approximately 50% are illegal. Over the past few decades, there were registered about 1 million buildings, and construsted 4 million.

On 5 September was presented a bill, which provides for penalties for owners of illegal housing. All buildings will have to obtain an electronic passport.

The country is located in a region of seismic activity. Electronic documents will allow you to observe their condition. It is expected that all premises will be registered for the next 5 years – the procedure for issuing and filling of passports will be simple.

The Minister also announced that in connection with the crisis, the fined owners will receive exemptions, discounts and the opportunity to repay the fine in installments. However, according to Panos Skourletis, "it will not go on forever."
