Germans are not ready to overpay for rent anymore

Rental rates continue to rise in Berlin. The Germans are trying to save money and move to cities' outskirts, according to ee24.com citing thelocal.de.

In 2012, the rent went up by 7.62% in Berlin, 6.25% in Munich, 5.29% in Hamburg and 4.17% in Stuttgart.

But it seems that the long-term increase of the cost comes to an end. From July to September 2013 in all the cities of Germany, except Berlin, rental prices have dropped slightly. According to Michael Kiefer, a leading analyst of the portal Immobilienscout24, in Munich, Hamburg, Cologne and Frankfurt prices declined by 1.8%, while in Berlin there was an increase of 1.42%.

Kiefer noted that the Germans can no longer afford to rent at high rates. A lot of families move to cities' outskirts, where they can pay less for rent. A part of the German Society believes that the government should step in and take a number of measures to stop the price increase in Berlin.
