The first skyscraper for the Germany capital, which Hines company plans to build at the Alexanderplatz square, may only look good on paper. Berlin Senate postpones the approval of the project till it will clear how construction may impact the tunnel of U5 which is passing underground, writes ee24.com citing thelocal.de.
Berlin subway is mostly shallow, and local builders don't have experience in the construction of tall towers. In this situation, there are fears that during construction ground water can get into the metro tunnel. Berlin transport bureau tries to figure out if it will be safe to keep line under operation during construction of the skyscraper.
We recall that we've already mentioned that the residential skyscraper Hines, designed by Gehry Partners, is expected to grow to 150 meters and become the tallest building in the city, eclipsing a 125-meter towers Treptowers and Park Inn.
