Jussi Niinistö, Mamber of the "True Finns" party and Head of the Defense Committee of the Parliament of Finland proposed to introduce a ban for Russian citizens on the real estate and land purchase in Finland. Alternatively, the politician offered Russia to lift the restrictions for foreigners (including the Finns) to buy land in five districts of the Leningrad region, writes Finnish Iltalehti media.
"In crisis situations, the presence of foreign land owners will have a great value. So Finland is interested to know who has bought, what and why... The permission to buy land should be offered on both sides of the border. If it is not implemented, Finland should prohibit such purchases. The majority of MPs now share this opinion", Jussi Niinistö said.
Recall that in January 2011, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree banning the purchase of land in the border areas of Russia. Restrictions apply to foreigners, stateless persons and foreign companies. The ban also includes former Finnish territory on the Karelian Isthmus and northern Ladoga area, with the exception of former Finnish Käkisalmi (Priosersk) area.
