Ban on buying real estate in Finland for the Russians and citizens of other countries, which are not the EU and the European Economic Area members, won’t be accepted by the Land of a Thousand Lakes. Legislative Committee of the Finnish Parliament has cancelled law consideration due to the heavy workload and lack of support among deputies, informs the ee24.com with reference to the Finnish Yle news.
Previously it was planned to limit the non- EU residents, including the Russians in purchasing real estate, by following measures: first, the non-resident had to live in Finland for 5 years and only then he was allowed to acquire housing. However, the legislative initiative, proposed by Deputy, Suna Kymalainen (SDP) and supported by 101 deputies out of 200 at its preparation stage, in December 2013, has now been dismissed from approval in the Parliament of Finland.
Anne Holmlund, Commission Chairman (Coalition Party) said: "We have to think about what signal we send to the entire world having accepted such restrictions." Suna Kymalainen on its turn intends to work out the restrictive amendments further.
