Expert: the introduction of visa-free regime with Russia is dangerous for Finland

Antti Honkanen, professor at the University of Eastern Finland, made a statement in which he criticized the possibility of introducing a visa-free regime with Russia. The expert believes that this will inevitably lead to an increase in crime and road hazards, reports ee24.com citing yle.fi.

According to experts, the introduction of a visa-free regime with Russia would lead to a doubling of the number of tourists visiting the country every year. However, it will lead to increase in the number of traffic violations as drivers in Russia are less educated than the Finnish drivers. Moreover, the danger of losing the visa because of improper driving will cease to prevail over them.

Professor urges to understand that the current level of infrastructure development, both in Russia and in Finland, is not ready for the introduction of a visa-free regime. According to Antti Honkanen, the return to this issue can not be earlier than 2018.
