Why do people move to new houses?

A study in the UK reveals that the majority of people move to new houses to be closer to restaurants, shops and other services, according to ee24.com citing independent.co.uk.

35% of the 1,000 respondents believe that the main reason for moving is a desire to go shopping, visit cultural institutions and recreational areas. 32% of Britons would like to move to be closer to their friends and relatives. 31% would prefer to reduce the cost of maintaining of their houses in England. 30% of respondents, by contrast, would be happy to improve their living conditions and move to a more spacious housing.

More than 800 people participated in the study prefer to live in detached houses, and only about 80 people choose apartments. According to Stephanie McMahon, Head of Research at Strutt & Parker, the results of study refuted the expectations of experts. People don't want to move in smaller houses: instead of sacrificing the floor space, they save on the area of gardens or buy houses in cheaper areas.
