Fewer new homes is built in Bulgaria

In the second quarter of 2013 only 1,151 permission for construction of buildings was granted in Bulgaria, with 2,985 apartments in these buildings, and built-up area of 395,038 sq.m. Such data is provided by the National Institute of Statistics.

The number of building permits declined by 5.6% year-to-year, built-up area decreased by 2.5%, while the number of apartments increased by 6.8%.

Compared with the first quarter of 2013 more building permits were issued. Experts believe that this is due to the beginning of the summer season, when the construction market revives. The number of building permits increased by 50.7%, the number of apartments increased by 59%, and the actual size - by 43.2%.

Leaders in the number of permits issued are Burgas region - 126, Plovdiv region - 115, Sofia region - 110, the city of Sofia — 93 and Varna region - 91.

By the number of commissioned apartments the leaders are Sofia - 672, Burgas region - 491, Varna region - 341, Blagoevgrad region - 207 and Plovdiv region - 187.

In the second quarter, there were 665 new construction projects, which will have 1,729 apartments, and built-up area is 231,620 sq.m. Compared with the first quarter of 2013, the number of construction projects increased by 66.7%, apartments in new buildings by 14.3%, and built-up area  by 24.6%.

Since last year, the number of construction projects decreased by 2.6%, apartments in new buildings  by 13.6%, built-up area by 4.7%. The leaders in terms of construction are Burgas region - 81, Sofia region - 68, Plovdiv region - 68, Varna region - 63 and Sofia - 45.
