Bosnia and Herzegovina will use obsolete trains

Five years ago, the railways of Bosnia and Herzegovina have purchased modern low-floor high-speed train Končar in neighboring Croatia. In 2014 train, which wasn't fully paid, was returned to the manufacturer in Croatia. The reason is simple: the Bosnian railways are not suitable for such trains, and the company lacks money for the modernization and maintenance of railway lines, according to ee24.com citing liderpress.hr.

Buyers of real estate in Bosnia and Herzegovina still have the opportunity to ride on the train. According to the Minister of Transport and Communications, there is an agreement with the corporation Končar that the train will be returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Note that the cost of the train is €5.3 million, and railways of Bosnia have a total debt to Končar of over €10 million.

Recently railways of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina aslo have bought 80 wagons in Spain of a total value of €70 million. Later it was found out that trains were not suitable for use on older railway tracks of BiH. Now the company is trying to rent out these wagons in Turkey.

Croatian media note that the railways of Bosnia and Herzegovina are in disrepair after the 1992-1995 Bosnian war. Trains run at an average speed of 60 km/h, and the path from Bosnian capital of Sarajevo to Croatian capital of Zagreb takes about 10 hours (the distance between cities is merely 300 km).
