In 2012 the gap of the prices of the consumer basket between expensive and cheap EU countries became more. According to the Eurostat, the most expensive foods in Europe are sold in Denmark, where the price level is 143% of the average European prices. Also exprensive foods are in Sweden (124%), Austria (120%), Finland (119%), Ireland (118%) and Luxembourg (116%).

Food and non-alcoholic drinks are cheaper than most similar in Poland (61% of the average European prices), Romania (67%), Bulgaria (68%) and Lithuania (77%). It can be assumed that the Bulgaria's popularity among Russians caused by the low cost of living, due to one of the cheapest food baskets in Europe.
