Rental sites Airbnb and Homeaway have been fined by the City Council of Barcelona with € 60 000 each. The reason is the illegal advertising of tourist accommodation. Each company received two fines: one (€30 000) - for the placement of objects (flats, apartments, private houses) that are included in the touristic Register of Catalonia, and the second (also € 30 000) - for advertising , that "do not correspond the requirements of the administration"
The City Council of the Catalan capital, continuing the fight against the illegal rent services, began to install next to the entrance door to the house with apartment for rent information boards with the identification number of the object and the 24h phone number of the owner of the leased object.
