Since 2014 foreigners allowed to buy lands in Romania

According to the agreement of joining the European Union, foreign nationals who are not residents of Romania, in 2014 will be able to purchase country lands, noted Steylana Fuyya - Minister of Agriculture in Romania.

Article of law comes into force on December 31, 2013. This will help to liberalize farmland market. One predict that restrictions for nonresidents on purchasing lands will continue more than till 2014, but according to Steylana Fuyya, such chances almost equal to zero.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture in Romania, 8.5% of farmland in the country owned by foreigners, that purchased by a legal entity, registered in Romania.

Cheapness of Romanian lands attracts foreign buyers. One hectare of land costs 1 972 euros in average. For comparison, in 2010 the average price was 1 700 euros in 2007 – 972 euros. However, the cost varies according to location and size of the plot.

For today Romania sells 500 thousand hectares of land, but most objects have small area.
