Wealthy people of Greece offer for sale Greek islands in order to cover taxes payments, which amount sometime can be up to 1 000 000 euros per year. Sale of islands became possible as several of 2 000 Greek islands are in private property.

Since the beginning of 2012 several islands have already being sold, the first of which was an Oksiya island of 5 square kilometers area in the Ionian Sea. The buyer has paid five million euros, 30% less than the first price of the island. Such price reduction provokes demand increase, which already outgrowing supply.

Also Patroclos Island, located in the south of Attica near Cape Sounion is on sale. The declared value is 100 million euros. The island of Skorpios in the Ionian Sea is sold for 500 000 000 euros. The island belongs to the heiress of one of the wealthiest Greek families - Athena Onassis.
