Greece sells buildings of diplomatic representations

The Greek authorities have sold the residence of the Greek Ambassador in London for €27.4 million, according to The Guardian. Unidentified buyer paid for the Victorian villa in Notting Hill, west London, at €3.5 million more than the appraised value. The mansion has 9 bedrooms (living area is 808 m2) and a view of the Holland Park.

Greece owned the house since 1973, but had to put it up for sale in 2012. The mansion is located in the Kensington and Chelsea, known for chic restaurants, prestigious boutiques and riding in a nearby park Avondale.

Money raised from the sale of diplomatic missions in the British capital will be used to pay off the huge debt of Greece to the European Union.

Greece also plans to sell three diplomatic representations: in Nicosia for €8.3 million, in Brussels for €3.24 million and in Belgrade for €2.075 million. Greek government would earn €48.4 million from the sale of all four diplomatic missions.
