Bosnia and Herzegovina may become a candidate for EU membership

According to KorrespondenT.net, EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina – Peter Sorensen said that Bosnia-Herzegovina by the end of this year will apply for membership in the EU and will become an official candidate for membership of the community in 2014.

According to RIA Novosti reported with reference to the Bosnian media, Sorensen taking part in a conference of the Centre for Strategic Studies in Washington said that Bosnia and Herzegovina on the road to the EU will implement the many reforms - from the constitutional to the court.

Sorensen hopes that Bosnia and Herzegovina having a complex system of governance in the future will be more efficient state.

"In Bosnia and Herzegovina there is progress, but we need to amend the constitution to become a functional state", – he said.

According to experts, the country will not be granted candidate status until Bosnian authorities will make some changes to the constitution and does not fulfill all the conditions necessary for closing the Office of the High Representative (international management), operating since the end of the 1992–1995 war.
