A new measure of the Turkish authorities to annul residence permits of foreigners missing in the country for more than 120 days a year, will affect many homeowners who spend time only during the summer season and who has received a residence permit on the basis of property ownership (with document Tapu). In particular, it will affect 40,000 expats from the UK who impermanent live in Turkey.
In case of cancellation of a residence permit in Turkey, the British would have to pay £12 for a Turkish visa valid for 90 days within six months. For comparison, the Russians may stay in Turkey without a visa during the same period.
The new rules will affect only the residence permit that is valid for 1 or 2 years, but not for six months. In the absence of a residence permit in Turkey, a foreigner can not get government medical insurance, buy a car, set an Internet or telephone in the house.
