The influx of immigrants is pushing up rents in Switzerland. It is predicted that in 2013 the rent will go up by 1.6%. For comparison, in 2012 the growth rate was 2.3%, informs The Local citing a report by property consultants Wüest & Partner.
Continued growth in rental rates caused by the high demand for real estate in Switzerland among immigrants. The pace of growth in 2013 will slow down a bit, since the volume of housing construction will increase, experts say. By the end of 2012, 75,600 homes in Switzerland were under construction, 2.5% more than the year before.
The highest rental growth is expected in Geneva (+2.5%) and Zurich (+2.4%), where demand still exceeds supply.
According to the latest data, the requested and actual rents in Switzerland increased by 25% and 13% respectively since 2005.
