The Spanish government sells Maqueda castle for €10 million

Historic castle Maqueda, located in the province of Toledo, is offered for sale for €9.58 million, according to ee24.com citing noticia.ru. It was built on the foundation of an Arabian fortress, and has undergone a major reconstruction and expansion in the XV century.

Until recent years, the castle housed the barracks of the Civil Guard. In 2001 it was decided to use the premises for the needs of historical archives and museum. €5 million was spent for the restoration of the castle, but the cultural and educational project wasn't realized. The Government of Spain has tried to transfer the castle to regional and municipal authorities, but they've rejected such a property due to the high cost of its maintenance.

Let's recall that large-scale sale of state-owned real estate in Spain has started last year. Several buildings were sold in Madrid, and a seven-year plan to sell 15 thousand properties was approved.
