Catalonian authorities sold Casa Burés for €18.8 million to the British fund of Europa Capital Partner and the Trinder Promotions company, which plan to turn an abandoned office building into a residential home or a luxury hotel, the ee24.com informs with reference to the Spanish media.
The house is in poor condition due to mess with its owners. Barcelona’s authorities bought the object in March 2007 and planned to create an architectural museum there, but the crisis broke out, and the building was resold for €26 million to the authorities of Catalonia, which intended to accommodate part of administration there, and after all they didn’t pay €19 million to the city. This is the amount a new buyer has to pay, and now, apparently, the regional authorities will be able to return their debt to city council of Barcelona.
Barcelona's Eixample district, where Casa Burés is located
Casa Burés is located in the picturesque Eixample district at the cross of Ausias Marc and Girona streets and was built in the Modernismo era in 1900-1905 (in Spain the culture landmark between 19th and 20th centuries is not called Modern, as in Russia, or Art Nouveau, as in France, but the Modernismo).
Architect of Casa Burés – Francesc Berenguer
The house was designed by Francesc Berenguer, but its official author is considered Miguel Pascual Tintorer, because Berenguer, who was a disciple and collaborator of Antoni Gaudi, hadn’t got architect diploma. Originally the house was built as headquarters of a textile factory of Francesc Bures.
The interiors of Casa Burés in Barcelona
The well-known known Catalan furniture maker and decorator Gaspar Homar made furniture, mosaics, and a fireplace for this house. Toda this fireplace decorated by mosaic with stories about Hansel and Gretel is main room decoration.
