Accession to the EU will lead to rise in housing prices in Serbia

Despite the fact that in 2014 the increase in property prices in Serbia is not expected, it can happen in the future, when the integration process with the EU will be intensified, according to ee24.com citing ekapija.com.

Katarina Štajner from the National Bank of Austria claims that real estate prices in the countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe, which have passed through the process of accession to the EU, have increased.

According to the Institute of Economics in Zagreb, property prices in Estonia in the year of accession to the EU have increased by 28.9%, while in Poland - by 34.7%. If we talk about markets in capitals, Riga and Warsaw have won the most from the membership in the EU. Housing there has gone up in value by 40%.

In the case if Serbia, where property prices dropped by 5% last year, follows the course of these countries, it will become a profitable destination for investments. Recall that the accession negotiations with the EU started in this January, so that it's too premature to say about the approximate timing of joining the EU.
