The Chinese have been the most active investors in real estate Portugal worth over €500,000 in order to obtain the so-called "golden visa" – a residence permit. According to the Portuguese Government on 28.02.2015, the investor program within last 2.5 years has attracted 2,088 foreigners to the country, out of which 1,777 – the citizens of China, namely 85%.
According to this program, the foreign investor buys a property for at least €500,000 or invest from €1 million to the economy and claim to a residence permit in Portugal, which can be renewed annually, and after six years can apply for Portuguese citizenship.
