Greece experiences tourism boom, though number of Russian tourists dropped

Indicators of tourism in Greece once again hit record in April, when by 33.9% more tourists arrived in the country compared with the last April, according to ee24.com citing ekathimerini.com. It seems that in 2014 the last year figure of 20 million tourists will be subdued, and not thanks to the Russians: their visits to Greece have dropped last months.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, in January-April 2014 the number of foreigners who arrived in Greece increased by 21% to 1.81 million. The largest growth was in Athens International Airport. Domestic flights are also gaining popularity: during the first four months by 9.7% more passengers (1.42 million) arrived.

The main reason for the growth of tourism in Greece was the revival of a positive image of the country in the foreign media. Trend became noticeable in the summer of 2013. As a result, Greece could return vacationers from all major countries except of Russia.
