The area of 2 hectares was allocated to pedestrians, the circular turn was cleaned, the cars were put into three bands, and the fourth was given to the cyclists, buses and taxis. Previously the cars were driving around the Place de la République on the perimeter and unfolded in a circle in the center. Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe has promised to turn it into a public space. And now, on the eve of new elections, the promise is fulfilled, according to the portal ee24.ru.

For public transport, taxis and bicycles the detached band 7 meters wide has been allocated. It has excellent public transport links. The metro station of the same name is located on the Place de la République, that combines five Tube lines. In addition, the area is the borders of the three counties, and is located in the chain of boulevards. This makes it a major transportation hub.

Because the area is now transferred to pedestrians, the architects gave two-thirds of the space area to the boulevards. The area is paved with concrete plates of bright colors in three different sizes, as it is located on two terraces with wide steps. On the area for the convenience of strolling there are many benches and chairs, and a comfortable platform near a small pond, enveloping the pedestal of the statue of Marianne, the symbol of the French Republic.

Among other things, the Place de la République has a children's playground, a cafe and a shallow pond 276 square meters. Many trees were planted here, which provide the square with shade. Among them there are many sycamore trees, honey locust and lonely wild cherry.

Recall that the idea of creating a large pedestrian areas is not new for Europe. For example, in 2014, an entire quarter without cars will be built in Berne, Switzerland. There will not be any vehicles running on combustible fuel.
