Paris: Russian millionaire bought a house of uncle of Bashar al-Assad

Rifaat Assad, uncle of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has sold the seven-story mansion in Paris, whose windows offer views of the Arc de Triomphe. The house is located on the Avenue Foch, one of the most exclusive areas of the French capital.

Rifaat al-Assad put the house up for sale last year. The deal was to bring him €100 million. He did not find a buyer and made 30% discount, according to The Telegraph. As a result, the house (area of 1200 sq.m.) with an underground swimming pool and gym was bought by some Russian businessman.

It is curious that Assad has not lost money because paid for a mansion in the half that amount. French media, in turn, called the Avenue Foch as "street of money obtained through unrighteousness." Not so long ago the police arrested the two-storey house of Theodore Nguema Obiang Mangu, the son of the president of Equatorial Guinea. He is accused of corruption and embezzlement of national funds.
