Nice: Saint Nicholas Cathedral is opened after restoration

January 19, 2016, on the feast of the Epiphany, took place the official opening of the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Nice on the Tsarevich boulevard.

Since May 2014 the Cathedral, an architectural monument of the early 20th century, has been closed to the public for the large-scale restoration works.

Small Chin consecration was performed by Bishop Nestor of Korsun and Bishop Anthony Bogorodsky. The opening was attended by the bishop of the city of Nice, Monsignor Andre Marceau and Mayor of Nice and President of the Regional Council of Provinces-Alps-Cote d'Azur Christian Estrosi.

At the end of celebratory events at the Villa Massena, was held a reception with the participation of the mayor of Nice and the representatives of Russian Federation and Russian Orthodox Church.

Symbolically, the reconstruction was completed on the eve of St. Nicholas, the year of the 150th anniversary of the death of Crown Prince Nikolai Alexandrovich and the 80th anniversary of the renovation of the temple image of St. Nicholas.

Recall that disputes concerning the ownership of St. Nicholas Cathedral between Moscow and Constantinople Patriarchate in 2013 resulted with the recognition of the Cathedral the property of the Moscow Patriarchate.
