Spikes against the homeless. Mayor of London called them "ugly and stupid"

A scandal broke out at the beginning of June in London when photos of the house with installed spikes nearby were published on Twitter. Developer of a luxury residential complex in Southwark decided to get rid of the homeless people in this way. London Mayor Boris Johnson called spikes "ugly, self defeating and stupid," reports ee24.com citing telegraph.co.uk.

Apartments in London in this residential complex are worth up to €1 million. Residents say the spikes appeared a couple of weeks ago after several nights when homeless slept at the entrance to the staircase. Londoners' opinions are different: some believe that this practice is inhumane, while others argue that noone would like to meet with a homeless when leaving the house.

There is nothing new in protruding bricks or in benches separated with "railing" by sections, but spikes has attracted public attention. Mayor of London said on Twitter that the developer had to dismantle spikes ASAP. Boris Johnson also reminded his administration had spent €42 million on the program "No second night out."
