Mayor of London refused to pay US taxes for selling his house in England

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who has dual citizenship of Great Britain and the United States hasn’t paid capital gains tax when selling his first home in England. US authorities charge him over £100,000, says the ee24.com with reference to the Daily Mail.

“Why should I pay? I haven’t lived in the United States since I was five. I pay my taxes to the full in the United Kingdom where I live and work”, London’s Head said in an interview to the National Public Radio.

According to British law, the income from the sale of the first house in England is not taxed. Boris Johnson bought his first property in the UK in 1999. House in Islington on north of London worthed him £470,000. 10 years later, the mayor of the British capital sold this house for 1.2 million pounds.

According to media reports, the US laws demand taxes payment, even if the country's citizens, including those with dual citizenship, live and pay taxes outside the United States. Boris Johnson at the same time stated that he keeps his US passport, as "it is not easy to give up."
