British retailer Tesco will start to build houses

UK's largest retailer Tesco plans to build 4,000 homes across the country. The company has a lot of empty lands, and will be more profitable to build them up, writes ee24.com citing themovechannel.com.

"We are currently working on plans for over 4,000 homes across the UK, either by building them ourselves or selling our sites to housing developers", they confirmed in Tesco for Property Week.

The Guardian Investigation revealed that the retailer has 4 times more undeveloped lands, which are enough for 15,000 homes. The company owns 4.6 million sq.m (460 hectares) of empty lands; if they had been located in one place, an area would have a length of 2.3 km and a width of 2 km.

Tesco is the leading UK retailer, which has about 2,700 hypermarkets, supermarkets and stores in 12 countries.
