In the village of Downe, Bromley, the south-east of London, is located a Down House, the family nest of the famous author of theory of evolution Charles Darwin. UNESCO considers Darwin's house as a candidate for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Site for several years, reports ee24.com.
In the case of a positive decision on this matter, the organization will take under its protection not only the building itself, but also gardens, meadows and woods where Darwin collected flora and fauna for his research. UNESCO and the British representatives consider this issue in the best bureaucracy traditions - for 7 years. Recently, it was reported that approval for the listing UNESCO World Heritage Site was received, further research were conducted.
Darwin's house is going to demonstrate its guests the amazing facts from the biography of the creator of the most important works for all of humanity, called "On the Origin of Species." Around the house lie the vast gardens planted by Darwin himself. Visitors have the opportunity to take a picture at home of Darwin and behold firsthand the greenhouse, in which the wiseman cultivated a diverse flora.
Only here the visitors could find themselves in a situation that surrounded Darwin every day, you can best of all understand his way of thinking, his credo. The caretakers of the museum with great love and zeal have prepared the rooms in such a way that they are the least different from those where the scientist spent day and night. Everywhere are the personal belongings of the scientist: a straw hat, a personal photo, Darwin's engagement ring, books, among which is the very first edition of "On the Origin of Species."
The highlight of the exhibition is a study room. There remained absolutely the same situation as that was during Darwin's life. Today you can see the same greenhouse where plants were cultivated for experiments by which the scientist proved the existence of evolution.
In the summer season at the Museum of Charles Darwin will be held guided tours to the gardens and greenhouses, in the fall at the site will be launched children's school of maritime adventure, and winter tours will be conducted on the life and works of the great scientist, and his relationship with his family.
Charles Darwin (1809-1882) lived in the Down House" in the village of Downe since 1842. Darwin museum was opened in the Down House in 1927, and in 1996 it was transferred to the national committee of "English Heritage" (English Heritage).
