Data collected from pages of Facebook users, has revealed that more often people move to Lagos (Nigeria), Istanbul (Turkey) and Bogota (Colombia), according to ee24.com citing qz.com.
Social network Facebook attracts 1.2 billion people monthly, which is about 15% of the world population. With the help of data that users place in their pages, is possible to detect cities where people prefer to move. Researchers have compared data from fields "my hometown" and "my current city".
Only "coordinated migration" was taken into account. It means that at least 20% of population had moved from one concrete city to another concrete city. In other words, if 100 users indicated A as their hometown, and at least 20 of these users indicated B as their current city, it can be called a "coordinated migration" from one city to another.
More often people move to Lagos, and 96% of them are Nigerians. No wonder that real estate in Istanbul goes up in value: the city is the second most popular destination for "coordinated migration". Its new residents are Turks (84%), Macedonians (4%) and Bulgars (3%). Other cities in the list are located in countries undergoing a period of active urbanization: Bogota in Colombia, Bangkok in Thailand, Accra in Ghana, Hyderabad in India, Kampala in Uganda, Lima in Peru and Chennai in India. London in the UK is 10th most popular city for "coordinated migration".
