Sunny Beach in Bulgaria will get a new building plan

Popular Bulgarian resort Sunny Beach will get a new building plan for the first time in 10 years. City authorities intend to start a restructuring to enhance the appeal of this tourist destination for investors who buy real estate. According to the chief architect of the resort Georgi Bakalov, the construction of the last years tainted the image of Sunny Beach, reports NewsBG.

"Sunny Beach was planned as a three or four star hotel complex. Today, the resort can be given three, and perhaps fewer stars. Established infrastructure meets only one-third of vacationers. Greening the resort has decreased dramatically, so tourism product got worse," said Georgi Bakalov.

The environmental situation in Sunny Beach is under control, and the resort gives a bad image of the temporary facilities (585 of them are working illegally), said Deputy Minister of Tourism Ivo Marinov. Authorities does not have rights to demolish illegal buildings, and inspectors can only impose a fine of 5000 leva (about €2,500).

According to environmentalists, wastewater treatment facilities at the resort, which rests more than the estimated 22,000 tourists, outdated.
