The authorities of Vienna will soon begin to tax short-term rental

30 September in the Austrian capital, an amendment to the law on tourism was adopted. Now all property owners in Vienna, who rent it out daily through services like Airbnb or Craigslist, have to register themselves. It must be done within 2 weeks. In the future, the IRS will check to see whether landlords pay tax profits.

Now on Airbnb there are at least 5000 ads from Vienna apartments and houses. According to financial authorities, total tax for these facilities will be about €100 000. If the owners have several apartments or engage in the business of short-term rentals, have additional employees, they must also obtain a license.

The amount of tax in Vienna is 3.2% of the cost of living. The penalty for non-payers has been increased to €2100.
