Description
About the project
Designed by multi-award-winning Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp Architects (FJMT), The Harrington Collection takes inspiration from its surroundings. The architecture represents a collection of carefully proportioned masses, enhanced by a palette of complementary materials selected with sensitivity to the site's locality and demonstrates a timeless aesthetic that will complement the character of the built form in The Rocks.
The richness and variation of scale evident in the Rocks is reflected in The Harrington Collection. Whilst the site is large, the masterplan divides the elevation into 3 distinct buildings, which are further articulated and honed to the rhythm of the local streetscape .
The materials palette offers a diverse range of complementary finishes. A mix of materials, already evident within the Rocks – sandstone, terracotta and timber, but complimented by other warm self-finished materials like bronze which will age gracefully.
The development takes advantage of the inherent amenities of The Rocks. Close to the harbor, cultural and recreational destinations, the streetscape and outlook at higher level to the Harbor are ideal addresses for residents who can enjoy vistas to Circular Quay, the Opera House, The Harbor Bridge and Barangaroo.
With each residence responding to its individual context and streetscape, the design makes deliberate and significant gestures for the provision of facilities and urban space for the local community. Buildings developed to define communal gathering spaces flanked by retail activations – providing a place for residents and visitors alike to meet and explore.
